Membership Guidelines

Our membership guidelines are quite simple, participate. That said, here is what we ask:

1. You do not need to have a computer running Linux. However, you should be willing to learn and obtain a basic understanding of the operating system. A curiosity of Linux is a good start.

2. Members should not bash other operating systems. Members doing so will be asked to cease and desist as to not alienate others who may use the alternative OS in question.

3. As a member of the LinIF Linux Users's Group you should attempt to show up to the meetings. Its easier to work with other people if you have met them in person. Although meeting attendance is not a requirement.

4. You use the advice you receive here at your own risk. Refer to the Disclaimer page for specific details.

5. This is a Linux/Unix users group, we generally will not provide tech support for other operating systems unless it relates to a Linux system. An example where we would provide cross support is dual-booting Linux and another operating system.

6. Please remember that we are here voluntarily in our free time and that we may not always have the time or the answers you seek. If advice is slow in coming, please be patient and remember there are many places on the Web, IRC and UseNet to seek help from also.

7. There will be no toleration of:

  • Racial, ethnic or gender slurs.
  • Abusive flaming. Constructive criticism is, however, appreciated and accepted.
  • Offensive or abusive language.
  • Harassment (of any kind).
